1st Terraplane, sneak peek.
I just received these pics from the Kirk Frameworks photo processing lab. I was cautioned that they still might be wet, so they should be held by the edges while viewing.
I should have the bike in hand by Thursday or Friday, just in time to debut it at the GRRRR Ride 90 miler, on the Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes on Sunday.

Dave,
Now is this your "yellow" Kirk that you had the Terraplane/DKS rear end put on? Very nice color and lug combination. Look forward to hearing your ride review.

Yup. it was the yellow bike. The standard seat stays were removed, the seat lug modified and the curved stays installed. So now this is the first Kirk, version 1.1 I guess.

Absolutely beautiful! Will be interested to hear of any changes in ride characteristics. Which lug set is that?

Smiley:
Dave named the curved set stays "Terraplane" in a post on BikeFanClub: http://www.bikefanclub.com/forum/sh.../fpart/all/vc/1 You should read the whole thing to get the feel of the result.
PBWrench: I think the lugs are Henry James, which Dave cut and manipulated.

What's with the "T"?
Dave,
Do you know what the "T" stands for in the seat tube lug? Does this has anything to do with the Terraplane that you guys have been discussing here?

Very nice Dave. Funny that you changed from the yellow and white though!
Will you be putting the tan saddle and bar tape back on?

Russ: I didn't think of the Terraplane angle, but no is doesn't have anything to do with that.
When I was finalizing in my mind what I wanted in a custom bike almost two years ago, I wanted to somehow set it apart from anyone else's custom-made bike. The idea of a personal mark or medallion came to me. So when Dave Kirk and I were in the throes of designing my frame and I mentioned this to him, we threw some ideas back-and-forth. The end result is that he and I designed this medallion using the initial of my last name, and he built and incorporated it into the seat lug.
Ginger: I have a new Brooks B-17 and Cinelli bar tape in a color that I hope will match/compliment the new color of the bike. I won't know until the bike gets here Thursday or Friday. If not, they can go on one of my Ti bikes. I will also try on the original saddle and bar tape too, to see if it works color-wise.
Like you, I wasn't quite sure of the color I wanted, other than it had to be a 'burgandy wine', which leaves a lot open to interpretation. We'll see what Dave Kirk/Joe Bell thought I wanted.

Dave,
Your choice in colors and lugs are just about perfect. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoy mine.
