A Different Take on the Giordana Spica
1992 Giordana Spica - a Columbus TSX frame I shared here last year as a traditional build, rode it for a month and then tore it apart and set it aside for this "international" build with components from the USA, Italy, Japan, France and England.
The details:
-Nexus Red Band 8 speed internal gear drivetrain with friction downtube shifter. Miche Primato crank with 48 chainring.
-Chopped Brooks Swift with matching Elkhide bar wrap on Ritchey cowhorns.
-Chorus seatpost, cinelli quill, Centaur calipers and Ultegra pedals.
-Silver Open Pro rims, black Wheelsmith DB spokes and signature red nipples laced to the Nexus hub in the rear and an Ultegra hub in the front. Armadillo tires for commuting.
The ride:
Bike is heavy but not overly so - about 22 pounds. Rides smooth and sweet but there is definitely some drag not found on a traditional geared road bike. That said, it's still a fast and very smooth bike. Elkhide bar wrap is amazing - I'd recommend it to anyone thinking about it.

Wow! Great pix and an inspired bike--all the coolness of an urban fixie with the practicality of a multi-geared ride.

Bravo! Very nice, on both the set up and the photos! You get extra points on my score sheet for the United Nations build.
I want to hear more details of the Nexus set up. What kind of downtube shifter are you using? How is the shifting? Can you give us a photo or two of the rear hub details? I've been seeing these Red Band hubs showing up on some serious mountain bikes, so you know they have to be tough.

O... M... G...
Totally blown away. Jer, you've outdone yourself.
I think you get the gestalt thing, yo.
So cool to see what can be done with bikes and components of every vintage, every inspiration.
That is all-time.

Lets just say I have some really good help, including access to a stage with camera, grip and lighting gear plus a DP by the name of Todd McClelland who is huge in capturing the vision.
This will show you some....

At no point in the building of this bike, were bulls actually harmed....with the exception of the saddle, bull horns and bar wrap that is. The bull wrapped bullhorns make it.
