West Point triathlon teams took
command of USA Collegiate Division at the 2010 USA Duathlon National
championships, in Richmond, VA. The women’s team swept the top four spots, while
the men’s team took six in the top ten. The teams credit fast bike splits to
their custom-built Serotta bikes combined with specific aerodynamic bicycle
fits through Paraic McGlynn, Director of Applied Cycling Science, at the
Serotta International Cycling Institute.
"It is telling that all five
of our podium finishers at the 2010 USA Duathlon Nationals and 2010 Escape From
Alcatraz Triathlon were riding Serottas.
Not only has the superior bike fit and performance improved the
athletes' bike splits, but their outstanding run times show that they are
arriving into T2 fresher and with more energy,” states, West Point Triathlon
Team Officer-in-Charge, Maj. Murphy Caine.
The West Point Women dominated
the field claiming the top four finishes not only in collegiate, but also in the
U-24 year old category. And in an outstanding performance, the final of her
career, Ashley Morgan finished first for collegiate and second among the entire
women’s field. Her bicycle of choice for the race was the MeiVici
AE, which offers supreme aerodynamics coupled with the renowned ride quality
and handling characteristics of a Serotta custom frame. The MeiVici AE features
a seat tube angle-specific rear wheel cut out and an innovative aero seatpost
for maximum aerodynamics and weight savings.
The men’s team had multiple
standout performances. Brian Trainor’s earned him 18th overall, but also
an individual National Championship Title for being the fastest U-19 athlete.
This delivered the men’s team its fourth National Title in the past two years
The Serotta CXII was the bicycle
of choice for the majority of both men’s and women’s teams. The CXII features
aerodynamically shaped C5S triple-butted proprietary Colorado Concept steel
tubing, which is comfortable yet stiff for maximum efficiency, while an aero
downtube and stays make for a slippery profile.
The Duatholon
National Collegiate Championships are held each year in conjunction with the
USA National Duathlon Championship Festival. This year more than 30 colleges
were represented at the Nationals. Over 1700 athletes competed to win
individual national titles within age categories and a place on the 2010 USA
Duathlon National Team.
